Today I got around to reading the second half of Cancer Vixen, by Marisa Acocella Marchetto, and was surprised and pleased enough that I want to correct my initial negative impressions of the book.
I previously wrote that I was turned off by the "very big-city chick-lit, fashionista viewpoint", which dominated the first half of the book; it appears that I set it down just as it was about to improve. The second half felt truer to me, with less histrionics and self-conscious cleverness, and more gut-felt honesty. I was impressed by the substantive information it provided in an easy-to-enjoy format, and by the more mature tone.
I would happily recommend this book for breast cancer patients and their friends and family.
