Buy Books and Help While Doing It

Two of the independent booksellers I recommend could use a helping hand right now. If you are about to purchase any science fiction or fantasy books, please consider buying from them while their need is greatest.

The excellent DreamHaven Books specializes in new and used science fiction, fantasy, horror, film and media books, and comic books. There was a break-in at their store on Saturday, and damages will be costly. Owner Greg Ketter writes, "Three bookstores have closed in the Twin Cities in the past two months and I don't want to make it four."

Neil Clarke of Clarkesworld Books has announced that he will be closing his home-based science fiction, fantasy, and horror internet bookstore, in order to provide space for their expected child. He will take orders for his in-stock books until they are sold.

I was very bad today. I went through Clarkesworld's inventory, and looked for the overlap of two sets: Books under $5, and books on my "To Read" lists. Turns out that the intersection of those sets had 17 members, and since it's for the good cause of helping Neil clear out that room, I ordered them all. Whoo boy, time to double stack those bookshelves.

Wrong...you were very good today! That's awesome, and it sounds like you got some good deals, too.

Have you seen those doors that double as bookcases? It might be time for me to hunt those down and post them. Heh.
