I've stopped complaining because I'm required to pay an additional $10,000 toward my cancer treatment, when I know that so many people avoid doctor visits and screenings because they cannot afford to pay. I know that cancer patients postpone or deny themselves life-saving treatment for the same reason. Parents go without treatment rather than let their children go hungry. I feel so lucky I can't even put it into words.
This insanity has gone on too long. Fortunately, the American Cancer Society is putting their might behind a campaign to put our presidential candidates on notice - and then hold them accountable once elected. I hope it spreads like wildfire, this and every other effort toward universal healthcare in the U.S.
It's as easy as filling out your name to sign the petition. And once you're at the website, have a look around to see what else you might be able to do to help.
Dear Presidential Candidates:
Access to Health Care Must Be a National Priority
This week, ACS CAN launched a major campaign to raise the stakes on the issue of access to health care . No longer can we let tens of million of Americans be denied access to cancer screenings and treatment because they have inadequate health insurance or are uninsured.
Join the movement to make this issue a priority for state legislators, Congress and the presidential candidates.
